Over a decade later, the Diablo 2 beta was one that many gamers such as myself look back on fondly. We waited a long time for Diablo 2; little did we know we would be waiting much, much longer for Diablo 3! As the D3 beta draws closer and closer, it’s going to be much bigger than the last 2 games in the series.
Here’s Why Diablo 3 Will Change Everything
If we rewind 10 years, most people had dial-up Internet access. Gaming on dial-up was a royal pain in the ass! These days, 99% of gamers have broadband and it has helped to grow the online gaming community into a much larger one than what it was a decade ago. Diablo 2 had a huge online following but Diablo 3 is going to make it look like childs play.
Having access to broadband is just one small part of this equation though. Still, Diablo 3 is going to have a far more robust online experience than what Diablo 2 provided and it’s all thanks to broadband.
Diablo 3 Will Be Widely Accessible.
One of the main draws to a game like World of Warcraft is that it will run on just about any type of computer. I suspect the same deal will apply to Diablo 3. 10 years ago, it was common to upgrade your hardware every 6-12 months. There were so many new games launching which demanded the latest video card if you wanted to have the best gaming experience.
That’s simply not true these days. In fact, I only recently upgraded my 5 year old PC which was still playing WoW and SC2 quite fine but had begun to show it’s age. The system specs for Diablo 3 are quite tame and this will allow a broad variety of gamers to play. More players = bigger community = more fun!
Age = Experience.
Blizzard now has a broad range of titles on which they can draw a large range of experiences from. From the recent launch of Starcraft 2 and the aging World of Warcraft, they know what works and what doesn’t work. The Diablo 3 online gaming experience will be the culmination of trial and error over many years.
No doubt we will find certain game-play mechanics and other aspects of SC2 and WoW in D3. One of the most exciting aspects will be the large amount of builds in Diablo 3 for the 5 classes. The re-playability is going to be massive!
